Just because I don't like France, here's another story ...

The French government have, in their eternal wisdom and eclipsed only by that of the U.S., made foie gras (duck liver, my wife tells me) "part of the cultural and gastronomic patrimony, protected in France."

Next thing you know they'll be eating snails and frog legs.
